KET1: A visit to the Kettle Moraine State Forest reveals the natural beauty of the region. More than 22,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pinewoods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit making this facility a popular area for a wide variety of users. Visitors to the forest can camp in one of three family campgrounds, a horse riders camp or one of two group camps, hike, mountain bike, ride a horse, snowmobile or ski on the 160+ miles of trail, swim at one of two beaches, backpack to an overnight shelter on the Ice Age Trail, picnic, fish, hunt, or tour three historic cabin sites. There are also facilities for use by those with disabilities including a cabin in the campground and an accessible nature trail. Visit the Southern Unit, experience the beauty and take advantage of the diversity of facilities it has to offer. |

Campers check in: Ottawa Lake Campground is part of the Ottawa Lake Recreation Area. Ottawa Lake Rec. Area is 4 miles north of Eagle. Travel Hwy 67 north from the village of Eagle, or south from I-94. Then turn west on Hwy ZZ to the campground entrance. Pinewoods Sites 1-36 are both "no-pet" and a 24-hour quiet zone. No person may operate a radio, boom-box, musical instrument, or similar noise producing device unless noise is contained to the person through use of a headset. Backpack Sites 1 - 3 open to reservation year round. Horseriders Campground is restricted to people camping with horses. Ottawa Lake 1st come / 1st served basis mid-Nov- 03/31 every year. All other sites are closed to camping when not on reservations. Camping is restricted to designated campsites. Vehicle admission stickers are required in addition to the camping fee. Stickers can be purchased upon arrival at the park. Click here for cost of the sticker. Water is available year-round at the Ottawa Lake Entrance Station. Campground shower/flush toilet buildings, water fountains and the sanitary dump station are turned on for use from approximately mid-to-late-April through mid-October. Pinewoods shower building is closed after family campground closes. Whitewater Lake Campground is a rustic campground. No showers or flush toilets. Hunting is allowed at Southern Unit Kettle Moraine State Forest. The campgrounds and surrounding area are closed to hunting. An article of blaze orange clothing may be worn to increase your visibility. For season dates, call Forest HQ or go to website. The forest is 30 miles in length, extending from the village of Dousman to near the city of Whitewater, with multiple entrances. Forest HQ offers information, museum, and gift shop.
